We’re so excited to have Karen O’Connor (Julie Bogart’s mother, noted author) offer a Brave Writer class! Karen has published over 70 books, 25+ of them written for the children’s fiction and non-fiction markets. She’s written 1000’s of magazine articles and has taught writing for publication for more than 40 years.
Brave Writer promotes the idea that quality writing is worth reading. What better venue is there to find readers than publishing what you write for an interested audience? Do your children have poems, essays, stories, or articles they’d like to see published in a magazine or on the web in a blog or e-zine? If so, this course is for them (and for you, the homeschooling parent, so that you’ll know how to navigate the whole process!).
Lessons will focus on the six steps that lead to the wonderful world of publishing.
Week One/Step One
- Learn the language of publishing
- Becoming familiar with the buzz words
Week Two/Step Two
- Pick a topic and writing category you’re excited about
- Finding one that will interest readers too
Week Three/Step Three
- Examining the varieties of article styles and selecting one
- Outlining and writing your article
Week Four/Step Four
- Preparing your articule for submission
- Writing a query letter
