The Just So Stories course exposes kids to the classic animal tales in Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories. With the support of a writing coach, you and your children will read and enjoy four of the stories together. You’ll learn to identify the literary elements that make these tales so memorable as well as discuss how the stories are crafted. Once your kids have a feel for the structure and delight of these narratives, they’ll be led in a process that enables them to write their own!
This is an excellent class to take after Kidswrite Basic or once you’ve worked through The Writer’s Jungle (though neither is required). Brave Writer techniques such as list-making, freewriting, revision strategies and editing are all used in this new context of story-writing. Parents are encouraged and taught how to facilitate the writing process so that you and your kids feel successful and nurtured along the way. The final short story is worthy of printing and binding, and even illustrating. Many kids share their stories with relatives and friends as a way to celebrate their successful completion of a fictional narrative. Believe me! You’ll love the results!
Just So Stories is one of our most popular courses with kids and moms, yet we don’t get to offer it every quarter. If you’ve been waiting for it to re-surface, now’s your chance to take it! Don’t wait.
The Just So Stories class is especially suited to elementary and junior high students. Those who’ve taken Kidswrite Basic will find that this course offers another way to engage your young writers while working with an instructor. Just So Stories follows a similar format to Kidswrite Basic: parents interact with the instructor, work with their children and then post their work to the Brave Writer online classroom for them. Kidswrite Basic is not a prerequisite, however. All are welcome.
