I started writing professionally at Midwestern State University, working as a newspaper reporter and literary magazine editor. I also taught English to non-native speakers at MSU's Intensive English Language Institute. After graduation, I switched to part-time work as a substitute teacher and then freelance journalism to stay home with my growing family. My husband, Jim, and I homeschooled our three children from the start and graduated our oldest last year. Now adults who've flown the nest, my children continue to amaze me and lead me into new adventures. While homeschooling, I channeled my enthusiasm for words by leading writing classes and a drama club for local homeschoolers, and I currently teach for Brave Writer (since 2007).

I am a veteran instructor of high school students and an expert at helping students become proficient in the SAT and ACT timed writing tests.
