Samantha is our first Brave Writer student to return as an instructor! She's fabulous!

I am an enthusiastic journalist, writer, and editor who appreciates the fine nuances of language, the demanding details of grammar, and the beauty of clear and concise prose. My passion for writing was awakened as a Brave Writer student in Kidswrite Intermediate, Expository Essay, and Timed Essay Writing, and I am thrilled that my writing career brought me back as a teacher in 2013.

After homeschooling K-12th grade, I pursued a degree and career in journalism, writing for several local newspapers, a city magazine, online news content, and blogs. In college, I served as editor for my college paper and in 2008 I received the Baptist Press Excellence in Journalism award for First Place in Newspaper Feature Writing.

As an intern for TeenPact Leadership School in 2006, I enjoyed teaching and mentoring high school students through the organization's government and civics courses in state capitals throughout the country. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Patrick Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Classical Liberal Arts in 2009. Post-graduation, I edited an incredible collection of short stories about World War II written by a German immigrant, which was published in 2011, and now enjoy editing and writing for my blog, ArtofCultivation. I have kept a journal since age 8 (the volumes of which span nearly two shelves in my book case) and am the proud owner of a hardcover, illustrated copy of Elements of Style, by Strunk and White. I currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina with my husband (and college sweetheart), Jared, and our children, Trajan and Cecily.
