Samantha is our first Brave Writer student to return as an instructor! She's fabulous!

Samantha is an enthusiastic journalist, writer, and editor who appreciates the fine nuances of language, the demanding details of grammar, and the beauty of clear and concise prose. Her passion for writing was awakened as a Brave Writer student in Kidswrite Intermediate, Expository Essay, and Timed Essay Writing, and she is thrilled that her writing career brought her back as a teacher in 2013.

After homeschooling K-12th grade, Samantha pursued a degree and career in journalism, writing for several local newspapers, a city magazine, online news content, and blogs. In college, she served as editor for her college paper and in 2008 received the Baptist Press Excellence in Journalism award for First Place in Newspaper Feature Writing.

As an intern for TeenPact Leadership School in 2006, Samantha enjoyed teaching and mentoring high school students through the organization's government and civics courses in state capitals throughout the country. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Patrick Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Classical Liberal Arts in 2009. Post-graduation, Samantha edited an incredible collection of short stories about World War II written by a German immigrant, which was published in 2011, and now enjoys editing and writing for her blog, ArtofCultivation. She has kept a journal since age eight (the volumes of which span nearly two shelves in her book case) and is the proud owner of a hardcover, illustrated copy of Elements of Style, by Strunk and White. Samantha currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband (and college sweetheart), Jared, and their children, Trajan and Cecily.
