Playing with Poetry is the most fun you can have with your kids while working on writing. Taught by our own Susanne Barrett (MA in poetry), your family will not just learn to appreciate poetic forms, but will have the satisfying pleasure of writing them! Your kids get to explore a variety of poetic forms, and learn about the art of poetic language. Brave Writer puts a strong emphasis on poetry, particularly in the younger years, because it is such a natural source of language development, literary elements and rich vocabulary. Plus, poetry is plain fun. I call it: “The Sudoku of Language.”
This class will explore and give you the chance to write poetry from among the following forms:
- Haiku
- Cinquain
- Diamante
- Couplet
- Tercet
- Quatrain
- Acrostic
- Shape Poetry
- Free Verse
If you need a boost in your mid-winter doldrums, poetry is a great way to supercharge the writing atmosphere of your home again. The products are short, they often rhyme and they provide plenty of giggles as your kids explore and play with language. Carefully handwritten and bound into a book, the products from this class can create a keepsake worthy of savoring and enjoying for years to come. (Poems are also great to share with relatives in birthday cards or on holidays.)
Take advantage of this opportunity to have support and guidance in the teaching of poetry. Pair it with tea and cookies and your kids will have a great month!
