Julie Bogart

I'm Julie Bogart, creator and owner of Brave Writer®, the online writing and language arts program.

I love writing.
I love kids.
I love parents!

I consider it the most serendipitously wonderful collision of loves that I get to be involved with all three every day. Early on, I put in my time in the professional writing world through editing, ghost-writing, and freelancing. I found out from homeschooling friends that the writing programs they were using were leaving their kids in tears and hating writing. I saw a chance to change the trajectory of how writing instruction is delivered. I applied what I knew from professional writing instruction to kids and saw breakthrough after breakthrough. My wonderful team has helped create what I think is the most effective writing program available today.

As of 2024, Brave Writer® has taught nearly one million students how to write, and to feel comfortable and confident doing it!

Biographical Details

I grew up in southern California, attended UCLA (Bachelor's in history, 1983), studied abroad in France, spent a summer in the Democratic Republic of Congo, lived in Morocco for four years, and earned my Master's in theology from Xavier University (2007). I have five kids and homeschooled them for seventeen years. I'm the author of The Brave Learner, Raising Critical Thinkers and Becoming a Critical Thinker.

My work in Brave Writer® was recognized as an "Outstanding Contribution to Society" in 2017 when I was awarded the Anne E. and William F. Madges Alumni Award from Xavier University.

I have the honor of being named in the Top Ten Women Owned Businesses in 2024 by the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Today, I spend time with my adult kids, my grandchildren, and my dear friends. I love traveling to see our wonderful network of homeschooling families at conferences. I live in Cincinnati Ohio.
